Melbourne-based Greek songwriter, Andrew Englezos pays tribute to his heritage. Released in August 2023, his debut full-length album ‘Joy is near to Sorrow’ invokes the spirit of the migrant story, the love of home and the heartache of needing to leave.
His contemporary world folk fusion brings together eastern and western melodies and rhythms, bridging tradition and innovation.
Accompanied by an 8 piece eastern ensemble in the Abbotsford Convent Oratory, Englezos will bring the album to life from the dervish blur of Cretan streets, to the hillsides of Turkey, to the shorelines of The Middle East.

Supper will be provided on the night by Meals With Impact, an organisation dedicated to creating culturally relevant food relief for local communities, whilst providing employment opportunities to women from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
